A guide to dining room floor rugs.
We recommend low pile or flatweave, closely‑woven rugs for this area. These are a great choice as they are durable, easy to clean, and less likely to catch.
Shaggy pile or high looped styles may hinder or snag your chairs moving in and out, while also allowing crumbs to fall into the depths of the pile (trapping them and making cleaning difficult).
Your floor rug should comfortably fit all your dining furniture. When pulling out your chair, the chair should remain on the rug, (this helps avoid chair legs catching on the seam, becoming a trip hazard and damaging your rug over time).
As a general rule, your rug should extend at least 60cm beyond all sides of your table.Â
Use these basic recommendations to find the most suitable size for your table setting.
There are numerous fibres to consider in this area. Wool is naturally stain resistant, while synthetic fibres (like our outdoor ranges) are easy to clean and care for.
For durability, help and jute are good options, but can be prone to staining from spills. If using a natural fibre rug, we recommend a stain protector is applied before use.
Avoid viscose or bamboo silk fibres in the dining area.
