All our floor rugs are labelled with detailed care and cleaning instructions on their reverse. Below we outline some general care and maintenance tips to keep your rug looking its best.
VACUUMING - Vacuum regularly on low suction to prevent dust & crumbs from settling to the roots of the fibres. Avoid using a turbo or brush head when vacuuming as this will create matting on shaggy rugs, fluffing on tufted and flatweaves, and damage to handmade floor rugs. Gentle vacuuming or shaking outside is recommended to remove dust and restore the pile.
SUN AND UV LIGHT EXPOSURE - To ensure product longevity, we recommend avoiding placing items in direct sunlight. Dyed and printed products made from natural fibres are particularly susceptible to fading in high UV areas, so avoid placing these products in areas of exposed sunlight.
COLOUR MIGRATION - Avoid placing dark coloured dyed items onto light flooring as colour migration can occur. Use rug underlay to avoid any colour transfer.
RUG ROTATION - Regular foot traffic or sunlight may fade or wear certain rug areas. We advise rotating rugs every half a year to ensure even wear.
SPILLS AND CLEANING - This varies according to rug fibre; ensure you check the back of your floor rug for specific details. The following is general advice.
Do not wash, bleach, dry clean or tumble dry. Remove spills immediately. Blot area with a clean white cloth and a gentle detergent. Gently dab at the mark, never rub. Remove excess moisture by dabbing gently at the area with a dry towel. For embedded stains and a deep clean, we recommend using a skilled specialist.
POP-UPS - Do not pull design elements or pull-out loose ends. Due to the handwoven nature of many of our floor rugs, you may notice that loops or ends of yarns pop up occasionally – this is a common occurrence with woven designs and not considered a fault. They can be easily mended by carefully trimming with a pair of scissors or pushing them back through to the underside. See our Maintaining floor rug pop-ups video.
RUG UNDERLAY - Use a rug underlay to support the structure of you floor rug and prevent it becoming misshapen. Rug underlay also helps to prevent slipping and creeping and adds another layer of cushioning if you have furniture positioned on your rug. While helping to prolong the life of your rug, it also protects timber flooring and prevents the risk of dye transfer to the surface underneath. We recommend using our Rug Master.

Use rug protectors under the legs of heavy furniture to avoid flattening of the weave.
USEAGE - Use indoors only. Avoid using in damp areas such as basements, bathrooms, and kitchens.
STORAGE - If necessary, store your floor rug by rolling the pile to the inside and wrapping with cloth for protection.
UNROLLING A NEW RUG - Initial wrinkling and curling may be caused by the transportation and storage of the rug. This is normal and will rectify over time. Try rolling the rug the opposite way or laying it reverse side up for a few hours, this will relax the fibres and flatten the rug. With shaggy styles, an initial fluff may be needed to enliven the pile.
SHEDDING - Loose fibres occur with most new rugs, and this is a normal characteristic, particularly with staple or spun yarn products made from natural fibres. Careful, gentle vacuuming (with low level suction along the grain of the pile) will hasten the removal of any loose fibres. Avoid using a turbo or brush head when vacuuming. As the rug settles, shedding will diminish.

As with all pure wool rugs, some pilling is completely normal and part of the natural settling process. It’s a hallmark of authentic wool and typically reduces over time with regular use and care.

For major staining, consult a professional cleaner experienced in cleaning viscose-wool mix rugs. Baya recommends 'Premium Surface Protection' for stain protection and any specialised cleaning.

Instead, spot clean any spills with paper towels, or a clean white cloth dipped in an acetic or citrus solution. Viscose fibres are very absorbent, so use the solution sparingly. Due to the delicate nature of viscose fibres, shedding of the pile is likely to occur, and should subside over time. Gentle vacuuming is required. Do not use a brush or beater head. For a deep clean, we recommend using a skilled specialist.

Outdoor cushions have certain colourfastness and durability. To extend the lifespan of your outdoor cushions, we advise bringing them indoors when they are not in use, as prolonged exposure to high levels of UV-light and dampness will degrade fibres and colours over time. Leaving your cushions exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods may result in colour fading.
All outdoor cushions are labelled with specific cleaning guidelines, but generally, they can be kept in good condition by washing them gently with cool water, either by hand or using a machine. Ensure to wash cushions with strong colours separately. After washing, let them line dry in the shade. Spot clean spills as necessary.
Outdoor floor rugs can be cleaned by washing with your garden hose, or with a damp cloth and warm soapy water. Hang outside to dry. You can also shake your floor rug outside to remove dust and dirt.
If using inside - gentle vacuuming or shaking outside is recommended to prevent dust & crumbs from settling to the roots of the fibres. Avoid using a turbo or brush head when vacuuming as this will create matting.

During rainy weather, store the rug indoors to prevent saturation and reduce the risk of mould or mildew caused by prolonged moisture or humidity. Ensure the rug dries completely after heavy or persistent rain.
Leaving your floor rug in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time may result in colour deterioration.
Spot clean with a semi damp cloth. Do not wash as water causes the natural skin to dry out and become brittle. Hang in breeze to air. For extreme soiling or staining, a professional cleaner that specialises in natural hides should be consulted.
Shake regularly to restore the pile.
Natural fur and hide products are susceptible to drying out and becoming brittle when exposed to direct sunlight or heat. Keep out of sunlight or UV rays to prevent colour fading, particularly dyed hides and furs. Do not place hide on underfloor heating, close to ÂÂÂÂa fireplace, or near any other source of heat.
Avoid placing dyed hides and furs on light coloured furniture or other surfaces as colour migration can occur.
Placing hides on the floor or on furniture in high-use areas will result in shedding of the pile.
Faux fur throws and cushions should be cared for carefully to minimise matting of the pile. To ensure your product enjoys a long life, we recommended the following wash and care instructions.
